Interview #2: Audeline and Juliette, founders of Les Indépendantes
A new interview on the blog! And not just any interview: that of Audeline and Juliette, the founders of the website Les Indépendantes.
You know how much I like to highlight French creation. And when it comes to French creation, we can say that Audeline and Juliette know a thing or two about it!
The principle of their site? To offer you the chance to create your own garment, which will then be made by the expert hands of one of their seamstresses. Great idea, right?
Zoom in on these innovative entrepreneurs who aren't afraid to take a stab at it!
Berthe: Who is behind Les Indépendantes?
Audeline: We are two young women aged 32, Audeline and Juliette, long-time friends, who dreamed of a more responsible and creative fashion .
We thought that with a dose of imagination and a lot of willpower, we were capable of developing a concept that could rethink fashion and the way it is made .
Regarding our concept, we created everything together . Juliette designed the entire website, a huge amount of work! For my part, I looked for independent seamstresses, a pattern maker interested in helping us create the patterns, partners for fabric printing, etc.
As we went along, we wrote down in black and white what we imagined in our heads.
Berthe: What is the concept of the Independents?
Audeline: On our website Lesindependantes.com , the customer can have fun creating and personalizing their Made in France and handmade clothing .
We offer a real online sewing workshop . The customer chooses, cuts: collar, sleeves, colors, patterns... She is the designer!
Berthe: Can anyone become an independent seamstress?
Audeline: Behind each of our clothes, there is an independent seamstress who works with love and quality!
Our seamstresses are hand-picked . To work with us they must pass a sewing test .
Berthe: What creations can we compose at Les Indépendantes?
Audeline: Our brand is unique because it gives everyone the opportunity to create their own fashion.
The models offered are all modular. Also, you will find dresses, skirts, a bustier, a peplum… Each one has its own length, its own shape, its own little extras: sleeves, collar.
All our models have been designed to suit as many people as possible, with simplicity and style!
Berthe: How is it going on the manufacturing side?
Audeline: We don't have any stock since we only produce to order. The fabric that makes up each garment is specially created for the customer .
Then everything is printed on the fabric : the pattern, the technical instructions, the label. All these elements are sent to the seamstress. Once she has made the garment, she sends it back to us.
Finally, we carry out ecological and responsible packaging . The customer receives their model within 3 weeks .
Having a reduced environmental impact is particularly important to us. We want to promote short circuits , so that the consumer/producer link is respected.
Berthe: Any projects in the pipeline for the Independents?
Audeline: Our site is brand new online and a lot of communication work needs to be done.
What we would like most: to come across lots of girls dressed by Les Indépendantes in the street! :)
