Berthe Aux Grands Pieds, the manufacturer of tights that don't run - l'Usine Nouvelle
"The Manufacture Perrin is one of the last manufacturers of socks and tights in France. Its secret: quality production.
Since 1924, the Manufacture Perrin has stood just a stone's throw from the city centre of Montceau-les Mines (Saône-et-Loire), a working-class town crossed by the Canal du Centre. Production begins in the basement, where the knitting machines run night and day. Whether they are electronic machines, from Japan and Italy, or mechanical machines that are more than half a century old, such as the Bentley Komet. The Manufacture Perrin has posted "modest growth, with 90 employees, a turnover of 6.5 million euros and margins of 5 to 6%", explains Franck Couturier, who runs this SME with his wife Martine.
La Manufacture works with 2,500 boutiques. It operates six of its own stores and, more recently, the websites of its four brands: Perrin, Berthe aux grands pieds, Dagobert à l'envers and La Chaussette française. Nearly 10% of its turnover comes from its collaboration with Le Slip français, Dior,"
